In the Remaining Minutes, We’ll Take Questions on any Subject Err…Except That Subject.
At a town hall meeting in Douglas County, an Atlanta suburb, this past weekend, Congressman David Scott of Atlanta was ending the meeting on transportation when he asked if there were any more questions on any subject that he could answer for the crowd.
Dr. Brian Hill, a local Urologist, then stood up to speak. Dr. Hill asked Mr. Scott why he was going to vote for a health care reform plan similar to that implemented in Massachusetts “that is shown not to work” and if he supported a government-provided health care insurance option.
Congressman Scott wasn’t about to answer the question.
He accused the Doctor of ‘hijacking’ the meeting.
He then went into his tirade.
Scott said, “I’m listening to my constituents, OK? These are people who live in the 13th Congressional district, who vote in this district. That’s who I’ve got to respond to … So what you’ve got to understand, those of you who are here, who have taken and came and hijacked this event we dealing with here, this is not a health care event.”
“You chose to come and to do it on your own,” he screamed. “Not a single one of you had the decency to call my office and set up for a meeting.” He went on, in a threatening voice, “You want a meeting with me on health care, I’ll give it to you!”
Dr Hill who is a constituent of Congressman Scott, when contacted by Atlanta’s 11 Alive, said that he had contacted the Congressman on several occasions with no reply from the Congressman’s office.
Dr Hill said in the 11 Alive interview, ”I did not go to a meeting to create any problems, I went to the meeting to literally ask a question that I thought was very, very important for my patients.”
This kind of confrontation has become more and more common at these town hall meetings. The Obama administration and many in the DNC have labeled the uprisings as ‘Astroturf,’ or fake ‘grassroots’ efforts.
You in the DNC keep pitching avoidance and deception, and let’s hope the fiscal conservatives can keep pitching the spririted, but real issues in this government’s attempt to takeover 1/6th of the US economy.
